Discord for Linux

Overview

Discord is a free app for messaging, voice, and video communication, available on Linux and other platforms like Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

It helps users talk and hang out with friends, groups, or large communities.

Whether you are in a school club, gaming team, art group, or just want to chat with friends, Discord offers different ways to connect.

On Linux, Discord allows you to send direct messages to one person, chat with groups up to 10 people, or join large servers with many members.

These servers are split into topic-based channels that organize conversations, making it easy to keep discussions clear and focused.

You can join voice channels to talk with friends instantly, without needing to call.

Voice and video communication use low latency, so it feels like being in the same room.

You can also share your screen, watch game streams, or hold video chats.

Discord includes tools to manage communities, such as setting member roles, creating private channels, and using moderation features to keep servers safe and organized.

The desktop version on Linux runs using the Electron framework.

For added security, the Flatpak version runs inside a sandbox, which improves privacy but limits features like Game Activity, Unrestricted File Access, and Rich Presence.

Offline use and data export options are not officially supported.

Overall, Discord on Linux offers a versatile and secure way to communicate through text, voice, and video in groups of all sizes.
